Tom Dickman

Tom was named head boys' basketball coach at Governor Thomas Johnson High School in 1974. He enjoyed 29 years of dominance, not only in Frederick County, but throughout the state of Maryland.

Under his leadership, the Patriots experienced unprecedented success. Fourteen times he guided Gov. Thomas Johnson H.S. to the University of Maryland for the state tournament. They earned seven titles, finished as runner-up four times and state semi-finalist on three other occasions. His teams tallied an 18-7 state playoff record along the way.

Additionally, Coach Dickman's teams captured 20 conference titles, eighteen 20-win seasons. Coach Dickman's accomplishments include coaching more teams to Maryland State Championships (7) than any other coach in Maryland history; 592 career victories.

Coach Dickman also coached the U.S. All-Star team in the McDonald's Capital Classic in 1999 and served on the Maryland Governor's Advisory Committee on physical fitness that same year. He was inducted into the Frederick County Hall of Fame in 1995.

Tom went on to start the Hood College Men's Basketball program. Four years after its inception, Hood's program reached the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. D3Hoops.com named him Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year in 2007.
