Lin James
Lin has had a lifelong interest in basketball, beginning when she was in elementary school. Her dad was her first coach, they worked hard on skills in the backyard.
During elementary school, she played every season and when she entered high school, she played at the varsity level for four years. During that time, she was fortunate to be iinvolved in a very successful program, playing on a team that won 100 games during season play and making two appearances in the state tournament.
When considering college, she as given an unique opportunity from Anderson Junior College, where she was invited to play for their school- tuition free.
After two years at the junior college level, she transferred to the University of Tennessee. There was not much opportunity for collegiate play at that time, but they did play in an intramural program and played other colleges around the state of Tennessee.
After graduation, she accepted a teaching and coaching job in Augusta, GA and worked there for two years. During that time, she also played on a semi-pro women's basketball team.
In 1967, she married her husband of 51 years and they moved to Maryland. She accepted a teaching job in Harford County at North Harford High, where she taught for 46 years.
Lin surpassed 600 wins, which makes her one of the winningest coaches in Maryland history.
